Modernizing Online Print Services — UX Transformation at Mixam
Client Overview
Mixam is one of the leading online printing service providers, offering high-quality, customizable print products such as books, magazines, business cards, and more. With operations across several countries, Mixam enables customers to configure and order print products entirely online. As their user base grew, so did the need to modernize the experience and meet evolving user expectations.

Results & Impact
The Challenge
Mixam’s website was originally built on a custom system that had become outdated both visually and functionally. The user experience posed significant challenges:
The navigation structure made it hard for users to find the right products
Customizing complex print items, such as books, was unintuitive and required excessive effort
The checkout process lacked clarity and felt fragmented
The artwork manager feature caused frequent confusion and support requests
Internally, another major challenge was securing approval from top management. Every design or development update required layered alignment, which extended timelines.
Our Approach
The project began with a full design audit, followed by the development of new foundations including updated color systems, typography, and layout structure. We tackled the redesign page by page, collaborating closely with Mixam’s product, development, marketing, and customer service teams.
Weekly feedback sessions allowed for transparent iteration, ensuring each design met user expectations and stakeholder requirements. Slack served as our daily workspace, supporting real-time collaboration across time zones.
The Solution
We focused on modernizing the site experience while staying true to Mixam’s professional tone. Key solutions included:
A redesigned homepage and navigation experience that improved product discovery
A new Product Configurator that simplified the customization process and reduced user confusion
An improved Artwork Manager with intuitive upload steps, better visibility, and status clarity
A simplified checkout process with fewer friction points and better structure
A desktop-first approach with responsive layouts tailored to Mixam’s primary user base
UX Innovation
Our redesign of the product configurator was one of the project’s most transformative aspects. By reducing cognitive load and structuring options in clear, progressive steps, we delivered a tool that felt both professional and approachable—regardless of the user's experience level.
